“By my strong reasoning shall my servants justify all my words and all my commandments which I have given unto you.”
To justify does not just mean what is fair or equitable, but what is best. We cease to sin as we come to a greater understanding as to why we should not sin and as to why we should do what the Lord communicates and demonstrates is best.
I am increasingly amazed by the love God manifests by his strong reasoning, his patience and long-suffering in explaining, again and again, the whys and why-nots.
To be sanctified means to become better. Jesus makes us better as we allow him to do so.
I am learning that we are sanctified by pure knowledge rightly applied. Obtaining pure knowledge (or knowledge of the truth) requires much humility, meekness, courage, and desire for what is better than what we have.
Whether we know it or not, we all have tears in our eyes while we sin. And we have tears in our eyes as we deal with the sins of others. Jesus wept. And he continues to weep again and again. But he promises a time when he shall wipe away all tears from our eyes. This time comes as we learn to trust him and follow him in every aspect of our lives.
Jesus sanctifies us by his Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the revelation of truth. It is his strong reasoning. As we accept and apply his strong reasoning, we become fundamentally better and better as we are made perfect in him.
As we learn to drink from the living water that he alone offers us, we are filled. We are cleansed. We are sanctified. And we become recipients of that joy which passeth our current understanding.
We do not currently understand or receive the joy of the saints because we are not saints; but as we become saints, by becoming followers of his way, that joy is revealed to us. This promise is a big part of his strong reasoning which he so aptly demonstrates for us.
And so, we have every reason to take courage and be of good cheer as we, in faith, courage, and humility, follow his strong reasoning.
I was asked the source of the quote in the first paragraph. This is a statement the Lord put into my mind and heart as I sat down to write and share this message, for my own edification and for others. I recommend looking up other scriptures where the prophets use the words strength and strong, for added context.
