Defunding the Police

The whole point of having a government is to have adequate protections in place for the fundamental rights of the citizens. Citizens form governments to promote safety, security, and prosperity. They (the citizens) therefore appoint representatives to enact just laws, police officers to enforce just laws, judges to help fairly litigate disputes and injustice according to just laws, and civil executives to administrate all appropriate government functions.

At the center of government is the police force. Without police, there can be no legal enforcement and no civil protection for fundamental rights.

To defund the police is to defund the legal protection of the citizenry, it is to disenfranchise the citizens of their fundamental rights, it is to shut down government and cause anarchy. In short, defunding the police is an act of government insurrection against the citizenry; it is a blatant act of war against the rule of law; it is treason. Heads of government who defund the police, incentivize criminality, and subvert the mechanisms of government designated to enforce just laws for the protection of fundamental rights, should be prosecuted and sentenced for treason.

When governments and rulers refuse to offer police protection and when they refuse to affirm the fundamental rights of citizens by upholding the rule of law, a state of chaos and anarchy ensues in which it is every man for himself. And so, bereft or stripped of government protections, the common man, ultimately, has the right to defend his life, liberty, and property by defending himself to the extent needed to deal with such an emergency.

Every man, woman, and child, has the fundamental God-given right to defend themselves, independent of any government or institution. Otherwise, there are no fundamental God-given rights. God gave us these rights and the right to defend these rights. No government or institution has the right to reverse this where innocence is found. God has decreed these rights and made allowances for the protection of these rights through His law and His will, which shines upon the hearts and minds of all people, regardless of race, religion, or creed.

Perhaps the most desperate situation we may encounter in this fallen world is violence against the fundamental God-given rights of mankind, especially when such violence is government-driven or institutionally driven.

A government is like a mother and father to her children, the citizens of a nation. But what is a child to do when his or her own parents take up the sword against them? Can a child hope to physically prevail against his parents? Can a child sue for mercy with any hope of deliverance when the hearts of her parents have gone cold, frozen in a tomb of selfishness, indifference, corruption, and hate? No indeed.

As Abraham did anciently, a child can only appeal to his God for deliverance, justice, and restoration, when surrounded by powers intent upon his destruction. And so, in a similar manner, the injustices of today leave us without recourse, except for our hope and faith in a just God, filled with mercy and love.

We must turn to the God of Abraham, Isacc, and Jacob, for deliverance. We must seek forgiveness, repentance, and faith. Otherwise, there is no escaping the doom that that is rising like an overflowing flood around us. As in the days of Noah, we must climb Mount Zion, build an arc, and take the adventure that God sends us. This is our only viable option.
