The Office of Priesthood

Earlier this morning, I published a blog post entitled Concerning Baptism. Then, about an hour later, I received an email from the Living Scriptures people that quoted D&C 20 and gave some interesting perspectives. In this email, they pointed out that “all members of all priesthood offices should “warn, expound, exhort, and teach, and invite all to come unto Christ.”” (D&C 20:59) I thought this was very powerful.

It has been previously declared that your power in the priesthood is requisite with how well you exemplify Jesus Christ in how you live your life. Those with the greatest priesthood will say and do as Jesus would in their place. It’s that simple.

Jesus was well known for warning, expounding, exhorting, teaching, and inviting. Many were impressed and amazed by this. Many were also deeply offended and enraged by this.

I submit that the basic office of the priesthood is to do these things: to warn, expound, exhort, teach, and invite others to come unto Christ.

No ordination or special authority is required to receive or exercise this priesthood. Many are called to this priesthood. But only the faithful are chosen. What is means to be called and chosen is important.

As we do the things Jesus did and taught, we will likewise receive the blessings Jesus promises to the faithful. And these blessings will expand and multiply throughout the world and into eternity, exponentially.

What great happiness, joy, and rejoicing we can help bring to pass by our righteousness, as we choose to follow Him.
