Q: I don’t understand the Godhead

Rob Smith has a post on this topic. This post is a response or add-on to his.

It’s amazing how much reliable information exists on this subject. And yet, how little do we understand with only print information on the subject? If I am not mistaken, only heirs of eternal life really know God, and even they continue to learn more and more all the time.

To say, “I don’t understand the Godhead,” is akin to saying, “I’m not Superman.” Really? How interesting.

Revelation is required. And yet, how often do we receive revelation without even realizing it?

In discussing the topic of the Godhead with numerous Evangelical Christians, it is evident that other topics are far more important. Topics like, learning the character of God, keeping His commandments, and repentance, should obviously take precedence.

Desiring to understand the Godhead is a worthy and appropriate desire, but it is important to realize that the fulfillment of this desire requires humility and faithfulness over a long period of time.

An accurate, but low resolution, understanding of the Godhead is actually fairly simple. My recommendation might include reading: The Lectures on Faith, by Joseph Smith. I also recommend this excellent video by a friend of mine.
