You cannot justifiably outsource your moral responsibility to discern goodness and truth.
You cannot justifiably outsource your responsibility to others for discerning good from evil and then choosing good.
But this is exactly what members of churches do who blindly heed their church leaders when they have ample evidence that their church leaders are just as foolish, corrupt, vain, and sinful as anyone else.
What evidence do we have that church leaders are foolish, corrupt, vain, and sinful? The general details of their lives do not reflect the lives of the ancient prophets. Their teachings do not agree with what the scriptures say. They readily admit that they are still sinful people. They agree with and support the corrupt institutions of the world. They replace the need for faith and repentance with the instructions that we follow them, live their institutionally imposed standards, support their lavish lifestyles, and attend their churches and temples, in order to be saved in the Kingdom of God.
None of this is OK.
Those who defer their responsibility to figure things out, discern the truth, and make the hard decisions, to churches and church leaders, will find themselves without excuse as they face the justice of God.
