Men will worship gods after their own image, after their own likeness, after their own kind. Men will worship gods that look like them, talk like them, think like them, and align with what they think God should be. Men will worship gods that flatter them, entertain them, and who preach to them the doctrine of men mingled with scripture, according to their lusts and appetites. Concurrently, men will reject the God of Israel because he does not flatter them, but chastens them, corrects them, and rebukes them. In short, he makes them feel sad.

For men do not love righteousness or truth, justice, judgment, or the goodness of his name.

The way of the Lord is truth, wisdom, goodness, and holiness.

The way of man is deception, foolishness, and greed.

But it does not have to be this way.

We have the freedom and opportunity to seek the Lord with all our heart, might, mind, and strength. We can choose to humbly embrace his chastening and correction. We can choose to acknowledge our sins and iniquity, acknowledge our foolishness, acknowledge our blindness, hard-heartedness, and innate resistance to censure and righteousness. We have the option to cease being proud and humble ourselves in the dust, following the example of Christ by descending below all things that we might likewise rise above all things. Of such are the righteous and the elect of God.
